Sentence Builder

A calm, errorless sentence-building system built for one learner.

A tablet screen showing a photo of a young man throwing a ball on the left, and columns of picture tiles on the right for building the sentence "He is throwing a ball."

What the Sentence Builder is

The Sentence Builder is ALPINE AI's first product in daily use. They look at a photo, then build a sentence about it by tapping picture tiles — one column per word. There is no score on their screen, no timer, and no way to "fail." It runs on a locked-down Android tablet at home, paired to a private dashboard their care circle can read.

It is not a commercial product. It was built for them, by their family, working with their speech-language pathologist (SLP) — and it is shared here so the people supporting them can see exactly how it works.

Five design principles

Every choice in the Sentence Builder — the visuals, the pacing, the feedback, the curriculum — is held to the same five commitments.

Predictability over novelty

The app never changes the pack, the pace, or the rules on its own. Nothing surprises them.

Clarity over complexity

One sentence frame, one new grammar target at a time. No hidden layers, no jargon on their screen.

Sensory-calm over stimulation

No scores, no timers, no competitive games. Quiet, gentle rewards instead of flashing excitement.

Self-paced over timed

They move at their own speed. There is no clock counting down and nothing to rush them.

Literal over abstract

No metaphors, no idioms, no implied meaning — everything on screen is exactly what it says.
