Read and Build with Reward

A story where every page is earned by a puzzle, then reads itself aloud.

What Read and Build with Reward is

Read and Build with Reward is ALPINE AI's fifth product, split from Read and Build. It is the same illustrated story app, its stories written around the curriculum's sentence maps, with the same curriculum sentences and the same build pages — but before every story scene, the scene's own picture appears as a real jigsaw puzzle.

The loop is simple and predictable: solve the puzzle, and the story page opens and reads itself aloud, sentence by sentence, with the spoken sentence highlighted. The learner taps Next at her own pace. Build pages then turn the sentences she just heard into tile builds, using the exact same word tiles and picture symbols as the Sentence Builder. Finishing the builds brings the next scene's puzzle.

How a story session flows

The automatic parts are deliberate. Transitions save the learner's cognitive budget for the sentence building, so taps are spent only where the curriculum lives. The puzzle also primes visual attention on the exact picture the language will be about.

  • The scene's own picture opens already taken apart
  • When the puzzle is solved, the seams fade and the scene reads itself aloud
  • Next waits for the learner's tap, then the build pages begin
  • Finishing the builds brings the next scene's puzzle

Tuned by an adult, invisible to the learner

Puzzles open already taken apart, with no Start button. Each one uses true interlocking jigsaw shapes, a faded ghost of the picture in the frame, and drag-and-drop pieces that glide calmly home if dropped far away. There is no rotation, no timer, and no score. If the visible tray runs out, it gently scrolls itself to the remaining pieces.

Behind the same deliberate two-second adult hold are the story puzzle dials: puzzles on or off, and piece count set to 4, 6, 9, 12, 16, 25, or 36 pieces, with 25 as the default. The same Read and Build supports stay there too: sentence hint, training wheels, and story-and-picture versus picture-only. Nothing about the puzzles is recorded or scored — a reward measures nothing. The story builds keep the same trial journaling as Read and Build.

The same foundations

Read and Build with Reward adds a reward inside the story flow, but it keeps every commitment the learning apps and Picture Puzzles make.

Calm by design

The puzzle opens quietly, solves quietly, and advances after a soft chime and a short moment. There is no Start button to manage and no Play button to find.

Errorless movement

A piece dropped away from its place glides back. Nothing buzzes, nothing says wrong, and nothing asks her to hurry.

No timers, scores, or ads

The reward is the picture becoming whole and the story opening. Nothing is counted, ranked, sold, or unlocked.

One predictable grammar

The story builds use the same curriculum, word tiles, and picture symbols as the Sentence Builder and Read and Build.

Support stays adult-set

Piece count, sentence hint, training wheels (a green outline marks the tiles that are already right after a miss), and story context are adult dials, hidden from the learner during normal use.

Built for one learner

Like everything under ALPINE AI, it is a landscape tablet app built for one learner, in family testing, and not a commercial product.
